Here you'll find one of several wetlands at Eagle Mountain Wilderness Preserve. This small pond is actively changed by beavers. Beavers are ecosystem engineers whose dams create conditions for a diversity of plant, insect, and bird life to thrive. Yet because their activities often damage or inconvenience human infrastructure, they can often be removed or killed. Here at Eagle Mountain, beavers are free to engineer this ecosystem as they please.

Eagle Mountain Wilderness Preserve

Founded in 2002, the Northeast Wilderness Trust conserves forever-wild landscapes for nature and people across New England and the Adirondacks. The Wilderness Trust owns Wilderness Preserves and Sanctuaries, and also protects land through legal means such as conservation easements. The organization currently safeguards more than 100,000 acres of wildlands in six states.
