Brooker Creek Preserve is approximately 8,700 acres, and the largest natural area in Pinellas County. It consists primarily of forested wetlands and pine flatwoods. Bordered by dense urban development, the Preserve provides both a unique refuge for native flora and fauna, as well as an opportunity for citizens to explore the natural beauty of wild Florida. The Preserve also serves to protect a significant portion of the Brooker Creek Watershed. A complex of hiking and equestrian trails provide visitors an opportunity to explore the Preserves many ecosystems.

Thank you for visiting the Brooker Creek Preserve and helping us document the seasonal changes in water levels and vegetation on Brooker Creek.  

Brooker Creek is a rain fed creek, and water levels will fluctuate significantly throughout the year when it rains. The headwaters of Brooker Creek lie in a series of cypress domes starting in northwest Hillsborough County. The creek system is made up of 13 meandering channels through the Preserve, most of which hold flowing water only during the rainy season (around May through October). Eventually, all the channels merge into one that outflows into Lake Tarpon and is a major influence on water quality.
