About this site

The Sudoeste Volcano viewpoint is  in the Punta Mazo Natural Reserve,  San Quintín Bay, Baja California, México.  Facing north we can see the San Quintín False Bay wetland, which is one of the best preserved wetlands in North America, a migration and wintering area for a large number of bird species, housing more than 25,000 migratory shorebirds during winter including the Black Brant (Branta bernicla nigricans). Also to the north is the community of La Chorera,  whose  income relies on the health of marine species  in and around San Quintín Bay. The dunes  to the northwest have been impacted by the extraction of "landscaping rocks", leading to erosion, and the extraction of volcanic rock is clearly visible.
