The Bloomingdale Valley is a living, pulsing patchwork of wetlands, forests and fields, with Mauch Chunk Lake at its heart. A great variety of plants and animals call this place home. Smelly skunk cabbage is common in the wetlands just ahead, where warblers and waterfowl make migration stopovers. Here, breeding birds belt out a summer territorial song by day, while frogs and foxes work the warm weather nightshift. Farmers sowing nearby fields share the harvest with wildlife, leaving a fall corn feast for the rabbits, geese and bears. Look for these and other animal tracks in winter, or any time you come to explore the valley.
