This wetland meadow reduces local flooding in three ways: using and breathing out water during photosynthesis called transpiration, directing water into the ground with deep roots calld infiltration, and after the rain stops the water on the plants will turn to water vapor called evaporation!
Increasing biodiversity with native plants is one of the best ways to improve habitat for wildlife and water quality.
The Natural Resources program is housed in Parks Maintenance within the Parks and Outdoors Department. We maintain green infrastructure, consult on new park design and help reduce invasive plant species among many other projects.
