The HRE-101 site is at river mile 84.5 by the Norrie Point Environmental Center on the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve. Halfway between the Adirondack Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, this freshwater tidal shoreline has great biodiversity of fish, birds, and plants. With this citizen science project, we invite visitors to watch the tides change, ice advance or retreat, passing ship traffic, and the seasonal invasion of water chestnuts (Trapa natans).
The Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve is a National Estuarine Research Reserve in the state of New York. Home to more than 200 species of fish, the Hudson River serves as a nursery ground for such important fish as sturgeon, striped bass and American shad.
