Kings Creek flows through Konza Prairie and eventually joins McDowell Creek and, later, the Kansas River. Kings Creek originates on Konza and the flow is comprised of water that runs off the hills as well as cool spring water. The water quality is superior and, because of that, there are many organisms living in and near the creek. This creek is a U.S. Geological Survey benchmark creek for the tallgrass prairie - which means it is the standard by which all other tallgrass prairie creeks are measured. Please help us keep this creek healthy and beautiful.
KPBS is a biological field station devoted to a 3-fold mission of research, education, and prairie conservation. It comprises 8,600 acres, most of which are set aside for research. The Nature Trail system, on the north end of the site, is open to the public to allow them to hike and enjoy the beauty and ecology of the tallgrass prairie. Visitors who are interested in becoming advocates for the prairie and to learn more about the Konza Prairie Biological Station are encouraged to become members of the Friends of Konza Prairie .
