Enjoy the view! This site is probably the best place to take in the Cheyenne Bottoms basin. Located on the north rim of Cheyenne Bottoms, you can follow the ridgeline that forms the bowl-shaped, 41,000 acre wetland. With binoculars, this is a great place to look for endangered Whooping Cranes during their spring and fall stops at Cheyenne Bottoms. You can even see the Kansas Wetlands Education Center directly to the south. What a great place to watch a sunset! This overlook sits along the Wetlands and Wildlife National Scenic Byway. One of just two national scenic byways in Kansas, this 77-mile route connects two of the most important wetlands in the U.S.: Cheyenne Bottoms and Quivira NWR. Visit the wetlands, but plan for frequent stops at many points of interest in seven corridor communities along the way. This Chronolog site is sponsored by the Friends of Cheyenne Bottoms.
This Chronolog site is funded and maintained by the Friends of Cheyenne Bottoms (FOCB). FOCB exists to promote and interpret Cheyenne Bottoms, including supporting the missions and efforts of Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks & Tourism's (KDWPT) Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area, The Nature Conservancy's (TNC) Cheyenne Bottoms Preserve, and Ft. Hays State University's Kansas Wetlands Education Center (KWEC).
