Thank you for visiting Martin Van Buren National Historic Site! The crowdsourced time lapse from this view provides an opportunity to observe a site in transformation from a young forest high in invasive species to an orchard that restores the land use that was in place at the time Martin Van Buren lived at Lindenwald. This forest was cleared in March of 2023. Check back throughout the year to watch the changes underway in this land use restoration project.
Martin Van Buren National Historic Site, a unit of the National Park System, is located in the Town of Kinderhook, NY on State Route 9H. The site is the historic home of Martin Van Buren, the 8th president of the United States, who named his estate Lindenwald and used it as a base for both political and agricultural activities. President Van Buren’s mansion is open daily for tours from June through October. There is no charge to walk the grounds, which connect with nearby trails, and are open year-round from 7:00am to sunset. For more information on self-guided activities, visit the park’s Outdoor Activities webpage.
