Learn more about Alder Stream Wilderness Preserve here.
This meadow, adjacent to the Preserve's parking area, was formerly a town sand and salt site. With time, it is slowly rewilding and will eventually become a forest once again. In 2019 and 2020, Northeast Wilderness Trust added berms and mulch and planted native shrubs and flowers to jump-start the reforestation process.
Founded in 2002, the Northeast Wilderness Trust conserves forever-wild landscapes for nature and people across New England and the Adirondacks. The Wilderness Trust owns Wilderness Preserves and Sanctuaries, and also protects land through legal means such as conservation easements. The organization currently safeguards more than 73,000 acres of wildlands in six states.
