Log Description

You are viewing the Hudson River from a beachfront area in Parelli Park in Piermont, New York.  The area contains a marina, restaurants, waterfront homes, and recreational areas. The river is 315 miles long and originates in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York and empties into the Atlantic Ocean at New York Harbor.

This area is just south of the Mario Cuomo bridge.  This part of the Hudson is a tidal estuary that is a breeding grounds for fish and sea life that thrive in brackish (part fresh and part salt) water.   Piermont also has a bird sanctuary along the shoreline.

Your view of the shoreline shows condominiums and a public walkway that leads to the Piermont Pier, about a mile out.  The shore south of the pier is designated as the Piermont Marsh.

About Piermont Waterfront Resiliency Commission

The Piermont Waterfront Resiliency Commission (PWRC) is tasked with helping the village of Piermont prepare for flooding and sea level rise through research, education, outreach, planning, and funding municipal improvements.

This data collection project is meant to help the public to see the Hudson River as an ever-changing and dynamic part of our river community that is both beautiful and awsome in its impact on our lives.  The Chronolog project allow us to view the daily and seasonal changes that the Hudson River goes through.  It gives the community a chance to participate in scientific data collection.  Viewing the timelapse photography gives insight into how the river breathes with the tides and it allows us to see the changes of the seasons.  The project can potentially show the impact of various weather conditions.  We believe that community awareness will lead to better decision-making as we prepare for a future that will be shaped by climate change.
