Blue Point Preserve permanently protects about 800 feet of frontage along Scarborough Marsh, the largest salt marsh in Maine. As sea level rises, a freshwater wetland on the property will allow for salt marsh expansion when formerly tidal areas become permanently flooded. Blue Point Preserve was formerly an abandoned housing project before SLT acquired it. There is a quiet and gentle loop trail that crosses through early succession woodland before leading to the overlook of Scarborough Marsh. This Observatory is near the bench that overlooks the marsh. The intention is to collect tidal and species variation over time.
The Scarborough Land Trust is participating in the Momentum Conservation Collaborative Climate Change Observatory (CCO) Network, a photo monitoring program designed to work with environmental conservation organizations and communities to assist with the observation, measurement and documentation of long-term climate change trends.
