The Gambles Mill Eco-Corridor is located in between the Country Club of Virginia and the intramural fields on University of Richmond’s campus. The Eco-Corridor project includes four key components: As part of the Eco-Corridor master plan, Little Westham Creek was restored and extended by nearly 1,000 feet. Trees, shrubs, and other ground cover were planted along the trail, and invasive species were removed to allow for the growth of native plants. The Eco-Corridor project also includes a multi-use, paved trail that connects two major cycling routes in Richmond, a meadow walk, improved stormwater management, a woodland walk, and outdoor teaching space. Help us track plant-regrowth and seasonal changes in the Eco-Corridor over time!
We're interested in understanding how vegetation and climate interact! The timing of spring (bud burst, leaf out) and fall (leaves changing color, leaf off) are changing across Richmond, and we intend to specifically use the campus at the University of Richmond as a living laboratory. And, we're excited that members of the greater University of Richmond community can help contribute to this scientific effort.
